1) Squirrels love to eat tulip bulbs. They are attracted to the smell of fresh bulbs. Maria planted 24 bulbs. The squirrels ate some of them. She ended up with 17 plants. How many bulbs did the squirrels eat?






2) Amika planted 12 tulips. Donna planted 5 more tulips than Amika. How many tulips did Amika plant? How many tulips did they plant altogether?






3) Joey planted 5 pink tulips, 8 red tulips and 6 purple tulips. The squirrels ate 7 of them. She then planted 8 more pink tulips. How many tulips does she have now?






4) The first graders planted 12 bulbs last Fall. The second graders planted twice as many as the first graders. How many bulbs did the second graders plant  How many bulbs did they plant in all?










Answers for sheet # 1 Tulips

1) 17 + n = 24 so n = 7. Squirrels ate 7 bulbs.

2) Amika = 12
Donna = 12 + 5 = 17
Total = 12 + 17 = 29

3) Joey planted 5 + 8 + 6 = 19 plants

19 - 7 = 12 bulbs

12 + 8 = 20 bulbs is the answer

4) 2nd graders planted = 2 x 12 = 24 bulbs

Total = 1 2 + 24 = 36 bulbs
