Sheet #1/St. Patrick's Day

Name: _____________________ Date_____________

Show your work.

1) Lucky leprechaun! Where is the pot of gold? I will walk 20 miles to the south and 15 miles to the west. I want to walk a total of 50 miles. How many miles will I have left to walk?

2) Uh-oh!!! I forgot to wear green. There are 16 people in my class who will pinch me and 17 in Mrs. DuRant's. How many pinches will I receive? (I forgot to tell you there are 2 students absent in my class!)

3) On my way home from school I saw a rainbow. We walked 3 blocks trying to find the end. My friends saw the same rainbow and walked 11 blocks to try to find the end. The rainbow had 7 stripes of colors. How many more blocks did they walk than we did?

4) I took my gold to the jewelry store. I found out each piece was worth $17. How much money would I get if I had 6 pieces?

5) It is almost St. Patrick's Day! There are only 6 days left. What must the date be?

6) The legend of the leprechaun has been told for 1,550 years. What year did the legend start?

7) I want to catch a leprechaun. I will spy on him for 2 hours and 20 minutes. Then I will sneak up on him in 5 minutes. Hopefully I will catch him in 25 minutes. How long will catching the leprechaun take?

8) Green is the color to wear for St. Patrick's Day! I am going to give everyone in my class a green pencil. I bought 3 packs with 10 in each one. Will I have enough to give everyone in my class 2 pencils each? I have 17 people in my class. If not, how many can I give them? Will I have any left?

9) I'm a little leprechaun short and green! When I was born I was 20 inches tall. I am now 2 feet and 3 inches. How much have I grown?

10) Patrick is a leprechaun. He has a sack of gold. He hides it in a special place. Between two stumps, I'm told. One stump is 1 ½ feet high. The other is 4 inches taller. How tall is the second stump?

11) The potato is a very popular food in Ireland. For dinner my Mom is going to make mashed potatoes. Each person will eat ¼ pound of mashed potatoes. If there are 9 people for dinner, how many pounds will we eat?

12) Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle because of the lush vegetation. The shamrock clover grows all over there. A shamrock has 3 leaves. I counted 427 shamrock in my backyard. How many leaves it that altogether? What if one was a lucky 4-leaf clover, how many leaves would there be?

13) I followed leprechaun to his secret spot. When he was not looking I stole his pot of gold. Inside the pot I found 56 pieces of gold. If I share them with myself and 7 friends, how many pieces of gold will we each get?
