Sheet # 2/Mother's Day

Name: _____________________ Date_____________

Explain and Show Your Work

1) A mother can bake good cakes and pies.  If she bakes 2 chocolate cakes and 1 apple pie, and then cuts them into 8 pieces each, how many pieces would a family of 4 get altogether?

2) A mother worries too much about her children.  If she worries about her baby from 5:30 a.m. until she gets the baby to bed that night at 8:15 p.m., how long has this mother been worrying about her child?

3) A mother is someone who gives security in a world of insecurity.  If your mother won't let you play outside after 8:30 p.m. because it is getting dark, but you have been outside playing since 4:10 p.m., how long have you been playing outside?

4) My mother picks me up after school everyday at 3:30 p.m., and then takes me to my dancing lessons.  She picks me up from my dancing lessons at 5:00 p.m., and then rushes home to get dinner on the table by 6:00 p.m. After dinner, she cleans dishes and helps me with my homework. Finally, at 7:30 p.m., she bathes my baby sister which usually takes her 20 minutes to do.  How long does my mother work each night from the time she picks me up from school to the time she is done bathing my sister?

5) Everyone tells me that I look just like my mom.  However, she is 1 foot shorter than I am. If I am 6 feet tall, how tall is my mom in inches?

6) Mothers are excellent about kissing boo-boo's away.  When I fell and scraped my knee my mother kissed my sore 6 times.  How many times would she be kissing my boo-boo if she tripled her amount of kisses?

7) My mother has 4 children.  The youngest is 3 and the oldest is 7 What is a reasonable total of all 4 children's ages added together?
a) 14
b) 10
c) 20
d) 25

8) My mother and I have beautiful children. My mother has 4 kids while I have 3/4 fewer children than her. How many children would I have?

9)  Mothers love to look and smell good, so I bought my mom a 4-ounce size of her favorite cologne.  How many cups would that be?

10)  The bottle of cologne I bought my mom cost $12.45.  If I  gave the cashier $15.50, how much money did I get back?

11) My mother loves pink roses.  On Mother's Day I planned on buying her a half dozen for $20.00, but I noticed a sign that read, Special,Get Your Mother a Rose for $3.00 each.  How much would I save if I went with the special?

12) My mother was 21 when I was born.  Now she is 63 years old. How old would I be now?
