1) On their way home from school, Carlos and Jose counted 23 blue cars, 18 black cars, and 13 red cars. About how many more blue cars than red cars did they count?






2) David and Cindy picked apples on Saturday. David had 28 apples in his bin. Cindy had 23 apples. About how many apples did they have in all?





3) Mary picked 47 apples. Larry picked 33 apples. About how many more apples did Mary pick than Larry?





4) Karen spent 43 cents on a cupcake, and 27 cents on a carton of milk. About how much money does she spend?





5) Susan scored 16 points in the first basketball game, and 13 points in the second game. About how many points did she score in both games?

1)Blue cars: 20
Red cars: 10
20 - 10 = 10 more blue cars

2) 28 becomes 30. 23 becomes 20. Total is 30 + 20 = 50 apples


3) 47 becomes 50 apples. 33 becomes 30 apples. 50 - 30 = 20 apples

4) 43 becomes 40. 27 becomes 30. 40 + 30 = 70 cents

5) 16 becomes 20, and 13 becomes 10. 20 + 10 = 30 points
