Use drawings, words, or numbers to explain how you got your answer.

If the perimeter of the following square ABCD is 32 cm, what is the perimeter and the area of the outlined step-like figure?

Answers for sheet # 70

Each side is 32/4 = 8 cm long

each small square is 2cm x 2 cm.
8 cm/4 = 2cm

Perimeter of the step-like figure:

Side DC = 4 x 2cm = 8 cm
Side BC = 4 x 2 cm = 8 cm
Steps: 8 x 2cm = 16 cm
Total perimeter= 8 + 8 + 16 = 32 cm

Area

Area of each small square = 2cm x 2cm = 4 sq. cm

Area of step-like figure = 10 x 4 cm = 40 sq. cm
