Name: _____________________ Date_____________

Use drawings, words, or numbers to explain how you got your answer.

Two bags have each got some black balls and some white balls in them.

Bag #1: 6 white balls, and 8 black balls

Bag # 2: 8 white balls, and 6 black balls

Scott has to choose a bag and pick out one ball without looking. If he picks a black ball, he will win a prize. Should Scott choose Bag # 1 or Bag # 2? Which bag gives him a better chance of picking a black ball or are they the same?

Answer for sheet # 242

Scott should choose bag #1. Even though both bags have the same number of total balls, the bag # 1 has more black balls than white balls. As a result, the probability of picking a black ball is higher than the white ball.
