Name: _____________________ Date_____________

Use drawings, words, or numbers to explain how you got your answer.

1) Bill, Joe, and Fred were playing a game. Bill got 35 points. Joe got 8 more than Bill. Fred got 5 less than Bill. What did Joe and Fred each get?

2) Anne made the following observation while riding a bus. There were 31 people on the bus when it left where she got on. At Claris Street, 5 people got off and 8 people got on. At Corol Drive, nobody got off, but enough people got on to triple the number of people on the bus. At the Red River stop, half the people on the bus got off. How many people were now on the bus with Anne?

Answers for sheet # 204
1)
Bill + 8 = Joe; Bill = 35
35 + 8 = 43 for Joe
Bill – 5 = Fred; Bill = 35
35 – 5 = 30 for Fred
Bill had 35, Fred got 30 and Joe got 43.

2) Number of people at Claris St.: (31 - 5 + 8) = 34
At Corol Drive, total number of people: 3 x 34 - 102
At Red River Stop, half people left. Divide 102 by 2 = 51. So 51 people left on the bus.
