In Florida, in January the probability that the temperature will be greater than 25^oC is 0.7. If the temperature is greater than 25^oC, the probability it will rain is only 0.2. If the temperature is less than 25^oC, the probability of rain is 0.4.





1) Find the values of A, B and C.

2) What is the probability that the temperature will be more than 25^oC and raining in Florida?





3) What is the probability that the temperature will be less than 25^oC and not raining in Florida?

1) 0.7 + A = 1, so A = 0.3

0.2 + B = 1, so B = 0.8

0.4 + C =1, so C = 0.6

2) It is the multiplication of probabilities

Probability that the temperature will be more than 25 degrees: 0.7
Probability that it will rain: 0.2

0.7 x 0.2 = 0.14 or 14%


2) It is the multiplication of probabilities

Probability that the temperature will be less than 25 degrees: 0.3
Probability that it will not rain: 0.6

0.3 x 0.6 = 0.18 or 18%
