Sheet # 212

Name: ________________________ Date_____________

Explain and Show Your Work.

1) Reggie and Sam both own pet shops. Reggie has 7 dogs and 9 cats in his store. The amount of dogs and cats together is half the total pets in his store. Sam has 3 fish tanks. In 2 of the tanks he has 4 fish and in the other tank he has 3 fish. The total number of fish is one third of the total pets in his store. How many pets are there in each store? How many pets in both their stores put together?

2) Bob had $26,321 in the bank. He owes $3,860 on his credit card and he wanted to buy a car for $12,999. For their anniversary, Bob is taking his wife to Italy which costs $4,500 for two people each way. Bob earns $12 an hour at his job. Does he have enough money to pay all these debts? If not, how many hours will he have to work to earn the money he needs?

3) Alex needs $150 to buy a new stereo system. He told his friends if they pitched in, it would be partly theirs. So Charles gave $25.36, Trevor gave $41.12, Miles gave him $33.33 and Alex pitched in $50.41. Alex told his friends he would split whatever change he had left with them evenly, but that he would keep any odd change leftover. How much change is there? How much change does each person get?

4) Ana borrowed $56 from Harry to buy holiday presents. She spent $42 and gave Harry the change. Then she got a job to earn the money to pay Harry back. She started working at the supermarket for 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. The manager pays Ana $2.00 an hour and Ana works for exactly 1 week. How much change did Ana give Harry from the $56 she borrowed from him? How much does Ana owe Harry? Will she have any money left over after she uses her week's pay to pay Harry back?

5) Nine kids belong to a skateboard club called Sunnyside Sisters. The club members are Ben, Todd, Nick, Ryan, James, Scotty, Mary, Monica, and Katy. They were in a half-pipe one day and started measuring how much air each skater got. Ben got 9 feet, Todd got 8.5 feet, Nick got 12.5 feet, Ryan got 7 feet, James got 13 feet, Scotty got 15 feet, Mary got 12 feet, Monica got 11.5 feet, and Katy got 6.5 feet. Find the average amount of air achieved by the nine skaters. Round to two decimal places if necessary.

Answers for sheet # 212

1) 7 + 9 = 16; 16 x 2 = 32 pets in Reggie's store 4 + 4 + 3 = 11 x 3 = 33 pets in Sam's store65 pets in the two stores

2) 26321 – 3860 – 12999 – (4500 x 2) = $462 Bob will have $462 left in his bank account.

3) $25.36 + $41.12 + $33.33 + $50.41 = $150.22
$150.22 - $150 = $.22

$22/4 = 7 r 1, so Alex gets 8 cents and each of his friends gets 7 cents.

4) $56 - $42 = $14 change for Harry Ana spent $42$2 x 5 hours a day x 6 days a week = $60 earned for a week's work $60 - $42 owed to Harry = $18 Ana gets to keep

5) 9 + 8.5 + 12.5 + 7 + 13 + 15 + 12 + 11.5 + 6.5 = 95 feet.95 feet ¸ 9 skaters = 10.56 feet of air.
