1) You buy gasoline for 99.9 cents per gallon. This price is 11 1/4 cents more than the dealer pays for a gallon. What is the price per gallon that the dealer pays?






2) A road sign read "San Francisco 55 1/2 miles." The speedometer of our car showed it to be 54.7 miles. How much difference was there in the two measurements?






3) The Browns have two cars. One car averages 23 1/2 miles per gallon of gas. The other car averages 27.25 miles per gallon. How many more miles per gallon does the second card average?






4) The machinist had a piece of 3.7 inches wide wood. She drilled 1 1/4-inch wide hole in it. How much of the piece remained after drilling the hole?






5) Last year's rainfall amounted to 23 1/4 inches. Already this year there has been a rainfall of 17.3 inches. How much more rain must fall this year in order to equal the amount of last year?
